US aggression prime source of insecurity in region: Araghchi

TEHRAN, Apr. 02 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister has said that the prime source of insecurity imposed on the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is the military aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran.

Speaking in a phone call with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung, Abbas Araghchi expressed gratitude to the messages of sympathy from the Vietnamese government amid the aggression, and informed his Vietnamese counterpart about the war crimes committed by the aggressors and the blatant violations of human rights and humanitarian law, especially the attacks on schools, universities, and educational and research centers, historical and cultural sites, hospitals, vital and productive infrastructure, as well as residential areas. Araghchi said that, “In just one case, in a criminal attack by the aggressors on a school in the city of Minab, about 170 students and teachers were martyred.”

The Iranian minister emphasized the continuation of Iran's defense against the aggressors, including their military bases and facilities located in the territories of the countries of the region, and clarified, “The reason for Iran's defense operations in the region is the use of the territory, bases and facilities located in those countries to wage an illegal war against Iran. Iran's defense operations are within the framework of the inherent right of legitimate defense and should not be considered a violation of the sovereignty of the host countries.”

Emphasizing that the prime source of insecurity imposed on the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is the military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran, Araghchi added, “This waterway is closed to the vessels of the parties involved in the military aggression against Iran based on the principles of international law and in order to prevent the aggressors from misusing the Strait of Hormuz to carry out illegal attacks against Iran. At the same time, the traffic of vessels belonging to other countries is being carried out in coordination with the Iranian authorities.”

Referring to the experience of the Vietnamese people in defending their country against aggressors and occupiers, the Vietnamese Foreign Minister stressed the need to respect the political independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries and abidance by international norms and laws and the UN Charter, and rejected the use of force or the threat of force.

Expressing concern about the consequences of the continued war in the region, Lê Hoài Trung expressed hope that peace and stability would be restored to the region as soon as possible.
